Děčín Castle
In the 16th century, the original Romanesque and Gothic Premyslid fortress was rebuilt into a Renaissance castle. After 1669, a Baroque reconstruction was accomplished and a new access road (the Long Ride Lane) built. A Baroque Rose Garden with its Sala Terrena from 1678 also belongs to the castle grounds. Another reconstruction dating from the 1790s gave the castle its contemporary Classicist look. From 1932, the castle was used as military quarters. A stay of the occupying Soviet Army from 1968 to 1991 caused vast damage to the castle. Nowadays, a new extensive reconstruction proceeds. The State District Archive, Tourist Information Centre and exposition of Děčín District Museum are placed in rebuilt parts of the castle. Similarly, the Rose Garden and castle chapel are open to the public.

Rose Garden with its Sala Terrena and Gloriet

The early Baroque decorative garden dating from the 1670s is one of the most valuable historical sights in Děčín. The elongated shape of the garden is based on two contrasting but well-balanced dominants. The eastern dominant of the Rose Garden is the stately two-floor Gloriet with staircases and terraces, on the west side, there is the Sala Terrena. In summertim e in the early evenings, concerts of chamber music are held in the Garden.

Classicist wall paintings by J. Kramolín decorate the interior of the temple. The church hosts conce rts of the Děčín Symphonic Orchestra and other orchestras several times a year. Stone Bridge over the River Ploučnice (The old Town Bridge)
The stone bridge was built by Valentin Preussler in 1574 and it is a remarkable Renaissance sight. Since 1714 the bridge has been adorned by a sculpture depicting the Czech patron saints St. Václav (Wenceslaus), St. Vít (Vitus), and St. Jan Nepomucký (Joannes Nepmucenus) by Michael Josef Brokof.

Chain Footbridge over the River Ploučnice
When the castle gardens were modified in the Romantic era, the castle rock was bored through and a little tunnel was made during 1808 – 1810. In addition, the water outlet of the castle mill was spanned with a chain footbridge in 1831. This bridge was one of the first consturctions of its kind in Bohemia. Nowadays, it is considered a historic technical sight.
